Description
Nish'a has light grey hair often kept in a short ponytail, moss green eyes, and dark grey clan marks on his face and body. His arms, back, and upper chest are covered in a swirling tattoo pattern that uses aetherically conductive ink. His clothing is mostly in muted blues, greens, and browns, and he often wears a pair of spectacles. Much to his chagrin, Nish'a's most attention-drawing feature is a large very fluffy white-and-black spotted tail characteristic of his family. He carries a well-worn ashwood cane bound with yew leaves, and an old leather grimoire embellished with different iterations of charms many times over. An outspoken little hedgehog familiar named Pepper is a near constant companion on his travels. His voice is quiet and low, and in unfamiliar company he can tend to speak politely and a bit formally, just as a Sharlayan is taught to. More recently, however, Nish'a has been embracing his native accent as he ventures out into the world — something almost reminiscent of Limsan in the clipping of words.Nish'a's recent travels and misadventures have improved his social skills quite a bit -- he's mostly just socially awkward now, but it seems to land more on the endearing side than utterly painful. He's typically most comfortable in the company of beastkin, but is surprisingly direct once he's gotten to know someone. While Nish'a has a very high tolerance for cold weather, he has a very low tolerance for hot weather and alcohol. He's an avid reader and writer of natural history, bestiaries, and poetry, and has an obsessive fondness for sweet and sugary beverages.
The Subject — A renowned scholar in the Faculty of Anthropology, one Archon Rillemont, has spent his career writing about a unique Miqo’te community on a remote isle in the Aerslaent archipelago. He’s written many treatises on the Issiq’s remarkable adaptation to a permanent settlement that relies on the sea, after countless generations spent as a nomadic mountain-dwelling people in northern Ilsabard. Until recently, Nish’a was still amenable to ongoing interviews, but he rarely, if ever, speaks of the research now.
The Student — Nearly his entire adult life, and the latter half of his teenage years, were spent in Old Sharlayan. Some might recall the shy young man from Aerslaent who never quite fit in, spending only two short years at the Studium before dropping out and accepting permanent work in Labyrinthos. He was a brilliant student who couldn’t sit long in a classroom, whose distinctive accent faded and was locked away. His studies & residence were sponsored by a member in the Faculty of Aetherology.
The Druid — The world’s such a strange place that his ability to speak with beastkin isn’t terribly outlandish, is it? That ability is bound to reading the land, so as he learns the flora & fauna & climate of any given ecoregion like a foreign dialect, so too will his communication improve. His deep knowledge of elemental magic and powerful innate aetherpool could be a boon to those in need of a conjurer, but he’s hesitant to practice much more than the most basic spellcraft; divination, charms, glamours, and wards.
The Researcher — So few notice the shelled wavekin that dwell in the benthos, but Nish’a’s spent a lifetime beneath the water’s surface. At first there was the seeding and tending and harvesting of his family’s shellfish gardens. Now there’s the collection of aetheric data, seeking new waters both fresh and salt, identifying and counting aquatic molluscan species, once as charged by Labyrinthos’ scholars, and now by the Wing of Reflection. Where does knowledge gained by watching the seasons turn meet the knowledge gleaned from the pages of tomes?
The Familiar — The hedgehog is a noble and bizarre creature, the spines repulsing some and the whiskered snout drawing adoration from others. Of all the hedgehogs in the world, Pepper may be a singular soul; a familiar granted sentience with the same magics used in the Sharlayan colony to create the poro roggo. Rarely, if ever, is Pepper far from Nish’a’s side, whether napping in his ward’s coat pocket or knapsack, or trotting faithfully alongside him on the trail, snuffling away for grubs and seeds.
The Oracle — There was a gift, or something disguised as a gift, perhaps, and it’s all but entirely lost now. Those with aethersight and those who’ve experienced the effect of a primal themselves, or are learned in such signs, might be able to glimpse the traces left behind. Glimmering gold threads of eikonic aether, not quite his own, but fundamentally inseparable from his very being. There was a past where he could glimpse the future, but now he’s bound to the present. Who would give that up? A better question; who would want to go back?
About
I’m a 30+ year old busy adult that works full time. RP is my fun hobby, let's keep it fun!
I prefer in-game RP over Discord, and need to set aside time for RP in advance (generally weekdays after 5pm PST and anytime on weekends).
This character is on Crystal DC (Balmung) but I'm willing to travel elsewhere.
This character is innately very high powered, or at least has the potential to be, but I write him as a much more grounded, everyday sort of character the majority of the time. His more powerful abilities only will come into play in RP on an "opt-in" basis.
I don't wish to interact with anyone who uses or supports the use of generative AI content. This is a creative hobby. Why are you using an environmentally destructive and wasteful tool that steals the work of actual artists and writers to create a shitty picture of your OC? Miss me with all of that.
Writing partners must be 21+ OOC, due to the high potential for mature subjects in RP.
What I find acceptable will vary by situation and by my faith in the intentions of my writing partner. If I find something uncomfortable, I will tell you. Please do the same for me.
I reserve the right to remove my character from any interactions that don’t align with my RP values, and encourage any of my potential writing partners to do the same. You respect my time and energy, I respect yours, we’re cool. I want RP to be a mutually satisfying writing collaboration, and a vehicle to propel each others’ characters forward in fulfilling directions.
Looking For
Travel & adventure. I love a good action scene, whether it includes combat or not.
Emotional nuance & a good sense of humor.
Lore flexibility and reasonable headcanons/homebrews that color in the vague outlines of existing FFXIV canon are great, but I prefer to avoid extreme fanon concepts.
Close platonic friendships of all kinds. I especially enjoy RPing with characters that have a strong contrast or even a clash in personality/interests.
Pre-existing character connections are welcome with a bit of discussion. E.g., gleaners / scientists / research assistants in Labyrinthos, former Studium classmates or professors.
Short- and long-term plots with a good balance of action, drama, and meaningfully mundane moments in between. Themes of ecology, magic/the occult, culture & diaspora, personal agency & identity, and the fault lines where those topics can harmonize and clash.
Dark or violent themes and antagonistic dynamics are welcome, please ask first.
